PGA Championship

The PGA Championship returns today (May 18th) at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.

The tournament is the second major of the golfing year with American Justin Thomas as the defending champion from 2022.

Thomas defeated Will Zalatoris in a three-hole playoff to win his second PGA Championship, his first coming back in 2017.

The tournament, like all four golfing majors this year, will see the inclusion of LIV Golf players.

LIV players had a strong showing at The Masters last time out, with Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson and Patrick Reed all finishing inside the top six at Augusta National.

All eyes however will be on The Masters champion Jon Rahm whose victory saw him claim the world number one spot from Scottie Scheffler.

The Spaniard has four victories in 11 events so far this season, with a second-place finish most recently at the Mexico Open, suggesting that he is in the right form to add the PGA Championship and take a step closer to a career grand slam.

Even with his drop to second in the world rankings, Scheffler is another who is currently in fine form. The American has finished in the top 12 in each of his past 13 events, including victories at The Players Championship and WM Phoenix Open.

In spite of having a bit of a hit-and-miss season so far, Northern Irelands and world number three Rory McIlroy comes into the tournament with two victories earlier this season but missed the cut at both The Players and The Masters.

Despite there still being a dark cloud over the golfing world, like The Masters, the tournament will showcase what the best in the world at golf has to offer.
